      Tasting Notes and Description
Bright pale yellow colour. The nose is still slightly closed, almost austere, but discreetly reveals beautiful aromas of citrus fruits, bergamot, verbena and lemongrass. It is easy to feel the youthful austerity of this terroir and to guess a complex evolution over the next few years. Indice 1: Dry - The mouthfeel is discreet, almost airy, of great elegance. Very quickly the taste buds are awakened by a ferociously tense structure based on a punchy acidity. The wine forces salivation and its delicacy makes it very easy to appreciate and go back to it. It is a great wine for laying down! (Winemakers note, August 2022)

The Clos Windsbuhl has an incredible history that goes back to the 14th century, when it was owned by the Habsburg of Austria. Alsace was part of the Saint Roman Empire until 1648. Right from the beginning it was always considered a special place, not just for the quality of the wines and their uniqueness, but also for the beauty of the nature that surrounds the vineyard and the strong energy of the 'hill where the wind plays'. Its higher altitude, the proximity of the forest and the thin rocky limestone soil are probably the main factors that explain why the Windsbuhl produces wines with such elegance and noble character.

"Still very youthful, with a wealth of cool and delicate herbal and stone-fruit aromas. Very straight and vertical, with super-elegant and energetic acidity. Tons of chalky power, but the fruit is only just beginning to open up on the sleek but very compact palate. I love the really long, fragrant finish. The structure and harmony for very long aging! From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2024."

"Limestone. Lime flavours and great reticence and chewiness. Not nearly ready yet. Drink 2024 - 2032.

(Jancis Robinson MW, JR Purple Pages, June 2022)

"From dolomitic limestone (Muschelkalk) and picked on 9 and 10 September, the intensely yellow 2020 Riesling Clos Windsbuhl offers a pure but deep, rich and generous, very complex and refreshing bouquet with darker-toned fruit, then later tropical fruit aromas, such as mangoes, and iodine notes appear. Absolutely fascinating! Very intense but pure and refined on the palate, with fascinating citrus flavors and acidity as well as fine chalky tannins, this is a gorgeous, highly refined and elegant, lush and generous Riesling that is completely driven by the terroir rather than the fruit or vintage. It was bottled with a stunning 12.4% stated alcohol and a natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2022. Drink 2025 - 2050.
      95 points."
