Go alcohol-free without compromise

Being the designated driver this Christmas period or participating in Dry January doesn’t have to mean no wine or spirits, you should be able to enjoy an alcohol-free option without compromise and without having to resort to a fizzy drink.

With the demand for non-alcoholic options on the increase the pressure is on wine makers and spirit producers to make alcohol free alternatives that taste like the real deal. In our quest to source and supply the best we tasted a lot of non-alcoholic wines so trust me when I say, not all alcohol-free wines are the same. Here are some alcohol-free options that won’t leave you feel like you are missing out.

What is Alcohol-free wine?

First let’s talk about what alcohol-free wine is because it’s not just grape juice.

To make wine a process called fermentation is used, fermentation uses yeast to transform the sugars in grape juice into alcohol. Fermentation is key in not only producing the alcohol but unlocking hundreds of natural compounds in the juice that give wine its texture, aroma and length. Alcohol-free wines are wines that have undergone fermentation and then had the alcohol removed from the resulting wine.

A common misperception is that alcohol free wine should be cheaper than traditional wines but when you learn that it is made as a standard wine and then has the extra winemaking step of removing the alcohol the price makes more sense. There is more work involved at the winery for the non-alcoholic options. To make the dealcoholized wines that still take like and have the mouthfeel of wine is challenging.

Loosen Sobr Sekt and Dr Lo Sobr Non-Alcoholic Riesling

From the renowned estate of Ernie Loosen, these Rieslings are a great choice. Having had the privilege to meet Erni earlier this year and see how passionate he is about producing good wines it’s no surprise that these non-alcoholic options are no exception. Alcohol free doesn’t mean a sacrifice in taste or quality.

Riesling is a grape that is naturally lower in alcohol and often found in off dry and sweet style. Both the sparking and still wines in the Sobr range have the fruit and acidity characteristics found in good Rieslings and you might not realise they are alcohol free!

BOLLE

Bolle offer a still Chardonnay, a sparkling white and a sparkling rosé. The fruit is harvested from vineyards across France, California, Spain, Italy and Germany. The resulting wine is expressive and balance, able to carry its character through de-alcoholisation and a second fermentation (the only non-alcoholic wine to have a second fermentation).

Bolle use vacuum distillation to remove the alcohol. This method means that a lower temperature can be used, thus preserving the delicate flavours and essence of the wine. The quality control at Bolle is rigorous, if a cuvée doesn’t meet the exacting standards for aroma, flavour, mouthfeel and structure, it doesn’t pass and it is not bottled.

The quality is clear, with all 3 wines scoring 90 points or above from Wine Enthusiast. The sparkling rosé even made the cut on the Wine Enthusiast Top 40 Sparkling Wines of 2026. The only non-alcoholic wine to make the list!

Château Léoube

The latest addition to the alcohol-free range at JN Wine. We have worked with Château Léoube for many years, their Provence rosés are delightful and now they have added alcohol free versions to the range.

Forever Love is available as a still or sparking rosé, unlike some other non-alcoholic wines, they have no added sugars or artificial additives. A premium alternative to traditional wines, exactly the high quality you would expect from Château Léoube. Like the Bolle, these wines are vacuum distilled to remove the alcohol but preserve the balance and finesse of a carefully crafted wine.

Pentire – Adrift, Seward and Costal Spritz

Costal, herbaceous and fresh these plant based non-alcoholic spirits are made by distilling plants native to the coastline in Cornwall. With no added sugar or artificial colours of flavours they are low calorie and packed full of flavour.

A lot of non-alcoholic spirits have sugars added in the form of glycerol to give non-alcoholic spirits the mouthfeel and viscosity of a traditional spirit. Aside from some agave syrup in the Costal Spritz the Pentire range is not sweetened, making them lower calorie than most non-alcohol spirits.

Choose from the straightforward Adrift, the zesty citrus Seaward or the bitter aperitif style of the Costal Spritz. Between them they have all the bases covered for making delicious non-alcoholic cocktails.
