      Tasting Notes and Description
Open and inviting in colour. Exotic and forest aromas in amongst woodland fruit and cherries. Very tense and full of life on the palate, smooth, fresh and long. Drinking now or over the next 10 years.

A new wine from Quinta de la Rosa. 100% Tinto Cão all from La Rosa's estate. Foot trodden in granite lagares for an evening before being transferred to stainless-steel vats for fermentation. Matured for 12 months in used French oak casks. Bottled in August 2021.

Still largely unexplored, the terroir in the Douro offers incredible opportunity. None more so than Quinta de la Rosa, whose vines rise dramatically out of the river with the imposing Vale do Inferno vineyard and climb steadily upwards to top out at 500m with Lamelas, whose magnificent views overlook the very heart of the region. The estate's grapes are category A, the very best the Douro has to offer.

Schist soil along with the extremely varied topography enable rich, full-bodied wines to have remarkable acidity, minerality and freshness. Quinta de la Rosa has become renowned for elegant wines that express terroir in bottle without too much extraction, tannin or oak.

The majority of La Rosa Estate red grapes come from the Vinha Grande vineyard.

"Full bottle 1,258 g. A new wine. One in a planned series of mono-varietal wines made by winemaker Jorge Moreira to explore the La Rosa vineyards. Foot-trodden in granite lagares for an evening before fermentation in tank. 12 months in used French oak.

Mid to light ruby. Fragrant with pure, tangy red fruits, reminding me of small, wild berries, with a fine dusty/mineral aspect to the aroma and no obvious sign of the oak. On the palate, vibrant freshness and a lively bite of both acid and tannin that is perfectly balanced by the brightness and expressiveness of the fruit flavours. Tannins are firm but becoming rounded with the time in bottle. Long, too. Varietal Tinto Cão is relatively rare and this is one of the best I have tasted. Drink 2022 - 2028."
