2007 marked the debut vintage for Domaine de l’Aurage, the third Bordeaux vineyard owned by the Mitjavile family. The other chateaux are include Tertre Roteboeuf in St. Emilion and Roc des Cambes in the Cotes de Bourg appellation.

Today, the vineyards are owned and managed by the capable Louis Mitjavile and his wife, Caroline Mitjavile. Domaine de l’Aurage was previously bottled under the name Chateau Cadet, before it was purchased by the Mitjavile family.

L’Aurage’s limestone and clay soils are similar to those found in St-Emilion, border of which is just a stone's throw away. The domaine comprises 20 hectares of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with Merlot making up the dominant portion of the cuvée. Like his father, Louis is a hugely talented winemaker and his precise style is going a long way in helping put the Côtes de Castillon on the map.

2020 assemblage: 95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc.

"Deep garnet-purple in colour, the 2020 Domaine de l'Aurage charges out of the gate with rambunctious scents of baked black plums, stewed black cherries and blackberry pie, with underlying suggestions of tar, unsmoked cigars, crushed rocks and cardamom. The full-bodied palate is rich with generous black fruit layers and an achingly plush texture, supported by a refreshing backbone and finishing with great length and loads of exotic spice accents. Drink 2025 - 2042.
