      Tasting Notes and Description
The main pillars of production at Achaval Ferrer focus on the smallest necessary intervention between the earth and what becomes a glass of wine. Ancient plants that are historical monuments of vine growing, of extremely low performance, located on hills that are excellently exposed to the sun on the edges of the Tupungato and Mendoza rivers, and of course, privileged natural sites that lead to the most pure and honest of messages that the earth can give to us.

Mirador - A synonym of character and refinement, something that rewards cellaring and is magnified after a decade of rest. A very mineral wine arises, with shades of graphite; dense and concentrated. Mirador is an indecipherable book: earth, clay, strengh and vigour.

The Miarador Vineyard is located in the town of Medrano, at 700 meters above sea level and at the west edge of the canal where this 4 hectare vineyard of Malbec can be found. The vineyard was planted in 1921.

      Composition: 100% Malbec.

800-1,000 cases on average for the three single vineyard wines. 17, 000 bottles of wine in this vintage. This is from Medrano - not typically known for high-level wine. 80 year old vines trained using vertical shoot positioned trellising. One metre of sandy topsoil over clay. This vintage was made under the old winemaking regime, with Roberto Cipresso and Santiago Achával. 15 months in French oak.

"It feels like 2014 is a great vintage for Finca Mirador, as seen in the 2014 Malbec Finca Mirador, which usually suffers in the comparison with its siblings in early tastings, because it tends to have a more backward personality. It wears the name of a plot of Malbec in Medrano planted with old vines, which tends to be the warmest of their estate vineyards. It feels like the cooler 2014 climate compensated the heat of the place nicely, and the wine comes through as fresh. In Medrano the soils are quite heavy, so you have to take care to get healthy grapes, and it feels like the low yields avoided the problems with the summer rains; the wine is very clean. These high-end wines are always aged in new French oak.
      93 points."
