Hesketh Great Australian Blend 2019, 75cl

    Product Information

The Hesketh Wine Company is a small, family owned producer of high quality, yet accessible wines. We work with our own growers and process our own wines like traditional wineries. But rather than attempt to be all things to all people from one region, our approach is to remain focused on the individual strengths of different South Australian growing regions. Of the incredible array of table wines produced in Australia since the 1800s, it is the blend of Cabernet & Shiraz that has made what is widely accepted as the country’s greatest and has become internationally recognised as Australia’s signature red. If you were to choose where to grow these varieties in South Australia, then you would look no further than Penola in Southern Coonawarra for Cabernet. Or Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale for Shiraz. The friendship between the Hardy and Hesketh families stretches back more than 60 years and it is their prized vineyards that supply the fruit for this wine. The Hesketh’s Abbey Vineyard in Penola and the Hardy family’s Upper Tintara Vineyard in Blewitt Springs The entire concept of the Great Australian Red is about the sum of its parts being greater than the individual components. This wine is comprised of fruit from immaculate vineyards, located in the very best sub-regions, from an outstanding vintage made by some of Australia’s greatest winemaking tale. "G.A.R. stands for Great Australian Red, a blend of Cabernet and Shiraz. In the case of Hesketh's 2019 G.A.R. Coonawarra Cabernet McLaren Vale Shiraz, the varieties come from different regions as well. Hints of capsicum appear on the nose, joined by blackcurrant and red raspberry fruit. It's medium to full-bodied but shows more of a Cabernet shape on the palate - streamlined and gently austere rather than broad or lush - coming to a silky, taut finish. While it should drink well for up to a decade, there's no real need to cellar it. Drink to 2030. 91 points." (Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate, August 2021)
