Château La Négly

Château La Négly is located in The Occitanie, deep in the Languedoc of France, facing the Mediterranean, in the La Clape massif, one of the sunniest places in France where 13 winds cross its sky.

La Clape, an ancient island which has been attached to the continent since the 14th century, is an anthology of soils on which each unique grape variety finds harmony.

Ideally exposed, the terroirs of La Négly and Boède are distinguished by the diversity of their soils. Indeed, the soil of Boède is sandy loam and sandstone, while that of Négly is clay-limestone, which gives the wines from these vineyards a wide aromatic pallet.

At the beginning of the 1990s, Jean Paux-Rosset and his wife inherited this family estate and completely transform it in the decades that followed.  Owner Jean Paux-Rosset and his talented consultant oenologist Claude Gros produce sublime, unmanipulated wines from low yielding, super-ripe, hand-picked fruit.

Definitely focused on environmentally friendly cultivation, La Négly obtains the “High environmental value” label in order to quickly convert to organic farming.

The wines of the  terroir are renowned for their saline/coastal character with lots of freshness and minerality.

The Wines

The white wines of Domaine La Négly are subtle and of great aromatic finesse.

They grow Bourboulenc, Clairette, Marsanne and Roussanne and recently Vermentino.

The reds are delicious, dense and complex. The main red grape varieties are Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, which is predominant in La Négly.

The complementary grape varieties are Carignan and Cinsault.

Chateau de la Negly La Cote 2021

"If you have never tasted a red La Clape before this would be an excellent place to start.

Violets, black cherry and raspberry with a scent of garrigue and a touch of salinity this is

a fine example. No Syrah here but so alive with a bright and breezy finish. 2023-2026."

92 points.

Chateau de la Negly La Falaise Rouge 2020

"A blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre—with a bit more Mourvèdre than usual this year—the 2020 La Clape la Falaise is a terrific effort. Notes of strawberries, garrigue and subtle notes of saltbush appear on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is ripe and supple, laden with raspberries, yet fresh and zesty on the lingering, elegant finish. Drink to 2035."

93 points.
