Purple colour with dark violet reflections. Intense and persistent aromas of blackcurrant, soft black fruit with hints of tilled earth, thyme and herbs. Deftly structured and full bodied with a pleasant freshness, smooth tannin, low acid and a long lasting finish.

Negroamaro, meaning black and bitter in Italian, is widely planted in Italy's deep south, especially on the heel of Italy in Puglia where it can make seductively heady, ageworthy reds such as Salice Salentino.

The PietraPura range is the result of the shared objectives of making the most of the native vines of the Salento area and of creating wines that express the very best of the terroir. Rocca delle Macìe has combined experience and expertise to create three different types of wine using Primitivo and Negroamaro grapes. The grapes are vinified and bottled in the Puglia Region under the watchful eye of the Zingarelli family’s chief winemaker, Luca Francioni.

Pairing Negroamaro is similar to pairing foods with Zinfandel. Both are great accompaniments to spicy foods, fresh tomato sauces, fresh tomato bruschetta and grilled or braised meats. Casseroles and hearty lentil and meat stews work splendidly.
