Rita Marques (a young dynamic Portugese winemaker) and Marc Kent (long term cellarmaster of Boekenhoutskloof) founded Companhia de Vinhos Invencível in 2020. The two, who had previously collaborated in South Africa and Portugal, embrace now a bigger commitment, acquiring an estate in Casais do Douro.

The pair focus on old field blends of indigenous varieties from high-altitude vineyards located on the vertiginous slopes of the Douro. The free-draining, grantiic soils and extreme continental climate of the Douro allow for intensely concentrated grapes which result in complex, textural wines, bursting with personality and vigour.

"Marc Kent has been making wine in the Douro since 2017 and this is the first super-premium wine. Label design by William Kentridge (who was at school with Michael Fridjhon and at university with another South African wine writer Tim James) is a very deep purple and incorporates elements from Mrs Beeton’s book. From an older portion of the red-wine vineyard and with a bit more oak. 2021 was a bit rainy. This is a barrel selection. Marc Kent: ‘Doesn’t scream Portugal to me.’
Herbal nose of the Douro. Quite subtle and very fresh. I think this is very Douro! Lots of layers and very competent texture. Drink to 2029."
