      Tasting Notes and Description
Bargylus Rouge is a blend of 60% Syrah and 20% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aged in barriques for 14 months of which a third of the wood was new. The result is a broad, savoury wine packed full of ripe dark fruits, Mediterranean herbs and sweet Eastern spice. Structured and full bodied, this is wine to enjoy with robust dishes and Mediterranean cuisines.

The Bargylus winery is precisely located near the town of Deir Touma, Syria, which literally means "Convent of Thomas", not far from the last vestiges of the Crusader era and the illustrious Saladin.

Typically Mediterranean, Bargylus elegantly combines strength and finesse: the aromatic range is defined by fresh fruit and minerality transmitted from very stony soils. Domaine de Bargylus is managed by two brothers Karim and Sandro Saadé, with the assistance of renowned consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt. It has been cited by wine critic Jancis Robinson as "arguably the finest wine of the Eastern Mediterranean"

In the mouth, the balance between the sweetness from a full maturity, a generous sun and the salinity from the limestone, allows Bargylus to transmit the strong identity of the terroir and an inimitable taste.

"Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot. The Saadé brothers set up a winery without any winemaking experience and planted their first vines in the early 2000s. Due to conflict in the country, the brothers live in Beirut and communicate remotely with their team, with help from their wine consultant, Stéphane Derenencourt. The grapes are hand-harvested. Using only gravity flows, the juice is punched down by hand during an extended maceration. The wine undergoes malolactic conversion and is aged on its fine lees for 14 months in a combination of new and used French oak barriques. It is then bottled, unfined and unfiltered, where it goes through an additional four years of ageing before release.
Deep, mature ruby. Lovely evolution on the nose. This has such poise and interest. It’s not light but everything is in balance. Perfect for a blind tasting! Exotic layer upon layer. Good Value. Drink to 2030."
