Bright, light yellow color. The nose is subtle, with notes of citrus and acacia. As the nature of the soil suggests, the style here is more 'Chablisien' than 'Mâconnais': the palate is taut, saline, with a tight, intense texture enhanced by a fine bitterness. The finish is long and fresh. Ageing potential of 10+ years.

At the southernmost tip of Burgundy, the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation covers 800 ha, 194 of which will be classified as Premiers Crus from the 2020 vintage. The villages of Chaintré, Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly and Vergisson make up its exclusive production area, in an exceptional natural setting: the world-famous rocks of Solutré and Vergisson, Jurassic limestone spurs culminating at 495 m and classified as a "Grand Site de France". Château de Beauregard's 1er Cru VERS CRAS is an austere, windy plateau at an altitude of 250 m, sloping gently to the EAST on the municipal boundary between Fuissé and Solutré-Pouilly. This topography and the very stony white limestone soils of the Upper Oxfordian are conducive to an intense, mineral expression of the Chardonnay grape.

10 months in barrels on fine lees, then several months in stainless steel tanks.

"This lightly wooded effort is also moderately reduced and tough to read aromatically. By contrast there is a lovely sense of freshness to the intense, detailed and rich flavors that don't have the same size and weight but there is a bit more refinement on the lingering finish. This though will need to develop better depth to merit the upper end of my projected range. Drink 2024+."

"The 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Cras 1er Cru comes from 3.5 hectares of vines surrounding the winery on limestone soils. Struck flint comes through nicely on the nose, very focused and full of energy. The palate is very well balanced with harmonious citrus fruit infused with flint and white pepper notes. Impressive weight and extract on the finish, this is turning into a delightful Pouilly-Fuissé. Drink to 2042."
