      Tasting Notes and Description
Jean Michel Gerin Champin Le Seigneur is produced from a blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier in most vintages. The wine comes from a mix of vines ranging from 10-50 years of age. Champin Le Seigneur is aged in 50% new oak barrels for up to 18 months.

The Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin was founded in 1983, with the purchase of a Côte-Rôtie parcel symbolising its birth. It was in 1987 that the first bottle was produced, made possible by the acquisition of the family vineyards (vines belonging to Marcel Gerin and Alfred Gerin, grandfather and father). Today, Domaine Jean Michel Gerin owns 12 hectares of vines in the Cote Rotie appellation. The domaine is going to remain a family affair as he is now joined by his two sons, Michael Gerin and Alexis Gerin.

Six generations of the Gerin family have lived in Ampuis, at the heart of the Côte-Rôtie vineyard. The vineyard is just under 20 miles south of Lyon, and is the northernmost appellation in the Rhone Valley, as well as being one of the smallest, covering only 280 hectares. The influence the Mediterranean and continental climates produce robust wines with strong tannins that are also smooth and elegant. The regal Syrah grape is sometimes mixed with Viognier for a more refined wine.

"Dark magenta. Spice-accented aromas of juicy red and blue fruits, smoky minerals, pungent flowers and olive, along with a hint of cracked pepper. Sweet, palate-coating cherry, black raspberry and cola flavours turn livelier with air and take on hints of allspice and mocha. Bright and quite energetic, with a long, spicy finish that features discreet tannins and lingering florality."
