      Tasting Notes and Description
The high proportion of Mourvèdre makes Felgaria unique for a Faugères wine. When combined with very low yields, a southern orientation and careful vinification, Mourvèdre undoubtedly has the potential to become the most emblematic varietal of the Faugères terroir: the schist of Faugères masters the impetuous character of the young Mourvèdre wine and enhances the personality of this unique grape variety that produces “grands vins de garde” - wines for ageing.

The high proportion of Mourvèdre makes this wine unique. Ripe Mourvèdre (>50%) growing on high, south-facing hills. Syrah and Grenache grown on high slate terraces facing north.

The high quality expression of Mourvèdre on schist. Deep and spicy aromas, expressive fruit, herbal notes (fern), minerality, typicity, fresh, rich, velvety tannins. Length.

Felgaria can be enjoyed when young but is also a wine with a great future (+10 years). This racy, wine will accompany festive occasions, and is ideally served with wild-fowl (pheasant), pigeon or beef.

"Certified Ecocert organic. 80% Mourvèdre from a south-facing vineyard called Les Crozes, and 20% Syrah from a north-facing plot, both on 100% schist. Hand-picked in several tries at different times, depending on the different parcels of these two vineyards. Each parcel is vinified separately. Spontaneous fermentation in a cellar dug into the hillside rocks. No sulphites are added during vinification. Very soft pigeages. Aged for 12 months in a mix of old 500-litre barrels and concrete eggs.
Occasionally I'll taste a wine that, on the first sip, makes my eyes prickle with tears – before a single thought or word has even crossed my mind. An instant, sheer-emotion reaction. Almost a shock reaction. This was one of those wines. It has the dark midnight-sky-blue palate of Mourvèdre, but unlike so many Mourvèdres, Felgaria doesn't growl and glower; it glows. It has that cool, luminous light of a wide-flung, star-pricked midnight sky. It glitters with schist minerality, which is wrapped in fruit that feels like black-silk ribbons and tastes like ink-dipped lavender and blueberries and blackcurrants stolen from a bush on the side of a dusty road. It has the olive-green bitter resin of juniper needles, uneven crystals of black salt and the slow curlicues of a person who still writes their letters by hand, using a fountain pen, each word carefully, pensively pressed into beautiful, heavy-weave woven paper. A dusty finish that fills every corner with reverberations that go on, and on… Drink to 2030.
