Bodega Urbina has a history that spans 150 years, with winemaking taking place as early as 1870 across, four generations. Urbina, a family-owned, single estate winery, has 75 hectares of vineyards, 65 of Tempranillo, and 10 of Graziano, Mazuelo and Viura.

The bodega is situated in Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, on the north-western edge of Rioja. It is an area that produces wines with a great capacity for ageing, and is therefore excellent for the production of great wines of character and distinction.

Wine made from the selection of Tempranillo grapes . This wine comes from the best grapes, from vineyards over 20 years old. It spends two years in French and American oak barrels and approximately two years in the bottle. The wine has been aged further in the Bodega and only released recently. A stunning example of mature and ready to drink Rioja at a fabulous price.

A wonderful nose of medium intensity, of great finesse where the black fruit, black cherry and black plum, appears perfectly assembled with the oak, truffle and spice. Very round without any harsh tannin, the maximum expression of harmony and balance.

"100% Tempranillo grown between 500 and 540 m above sea level in Cuzcurrita del Río Tirón. Integrated pest management, using organic fertilisers and ground cover. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation, then the wine rested for a year. Aged in a mix of American and French oak barrels for 30 months, then 5 years in a stainless-steel vat. Bottled 6 months before being launched. 66,000 bottles.
Tasted blind. Quite tertiary: leather, balsamic, moss, spices and wood. On the palate, it is fully polymerised, fluid, with the tannins developed and well integrated. It maintains a thread of acidity. Pure Riojan classicism and with the characteristic notes of tobacco. In fact, it reminds me of a box of cigars and nutmeg. Do they seriously produce 66,000 bottles of this quality? This winery can be put on the list of great Rioja classic wineries. Drink 2018 – 2040.
