      Tasting Notes and Description
Altamira is crafted from old vine Malbec, planted on its own roots, from the La Consulta region of the Uco Valley, Mendoza. Total area of the vineyard is 14 acres, sitting at an altitude of 3400 feet above sea level. The great age (more than 80 years) of the plants balances the crop at the extremely low yield of less than one pound of grapes per plant (1/3 of a bottle of wine). This is equivalent to 0.75 tons per acre, or 12 hectolitres per hectare.

"2014 started as a normal growing season, but in February it started raining, so the character of many wines is fresh, less powerful and more elegant. These characteristics are clearly reflected in the 2014 Malbec Finca Altamira, which in any case is always the most floral and exuberant of the single-vineyard bottlings. What matters here is the origin, the soils and vines, rather than the process, which is kept more or less the same for all of the wines. It has a spectacular acid structure, not as creamy as other years, more vertical. Truly outstanding. 16,000 bottles were produced in 2014. 96+ Points."

"Does Argentina have a fine wine dimension? That's a good question. I think I'd answer 'yes', and largely because of the amazing wines of Achaval Ferrer, which, for me, is Argentina's most impressive producer. I'd tried their wines in London, and been blown away by them, so I was delighted to be able to visit the winery, even though it was in the rather busy time of vintage."
