      Tasting Notes and Description
Artadi Vina El Pison comes from a single 2.4 hectare vineyard planted in 1945 on pure limestone. It is the epitome of elegance and sensuality its silky tannins coveying complex flavours minerality delicate spices and a lengthy pure finish. In the words of Artadi's Juan Carlos Lopez de Lacalle: "The Pison vineyard produces a wine which is a reflection of the knowledge of our ancestors and our passion to keep the spirit of the vineyard alive. Drink from 2018."

"Artadi's top wine is dynamite in a bottle. Ripe, saturated, oaky aromas of blackberry, leather, blueberry pie and aged cheese are incredibly potent and alluring. This is huge in the mouth, with lemony oak and broad tannins that don't grind. Intense blackberry, coffee, toast and smoky flavors finish a mile deep, with all sorts of textural grab and character. Best from 2016."
95 points. Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast (October 2014)

"The 2011 Vina El Pison was one of the first single-vineyard wines in Rioja (and in the whole of Spain as a matter of fact) and today it’s a famous vineyard throughout the world. It was planted by Juan Carlos Lopez de Lacalle’s grandfather in 1945. The 2.4 hectare vineyard is located in Laguardia at 480 meters above sea level. The grapes ferment in open wooden vats and the wine ages for 15 months in French oak barrels. The 2011 is unashamedly ripe, with intense aromas of violets and ripe black cherries, verging on the black olives, with plenty of notes of spices. It has a very clear and persistent note of cinnamon and vanilla. It improves greatly with air and time in the glass. The palate reveals some grainy tannins, bright acidity, medium to full-bodied, with an intense, extra-long finish."
