Kolor is much more than a wine, it is an experience born from the joint work of wine maker Raul Perez and the contemporary artist Okuda San Miguel with a with a very clear objective: to thrill. An unexpected collaboration that begins with a meeting where they share their ideas, reflections, concepts and concerns about life and their different professional disiplines and that results in Kolor, a unique work that is experienced through the five senses.

Kolor is a red wine produced with Mencia grapes from vineyards that are over 50 years old, located in the heart of the Bierzo region, in the village of Valtuille de Abajo, an area with clay soils. Whole bunch fermentation takes place in large oak vats. Maceration lasts between two to five months, with subsequent ageing in oak barrels and cement for another 12 months. Kolor is bottled without fining or filtration.

The Wine Maker

Raul Perez, born in Valtuille de Abajo (Leon) in 1972 is an inescapable reference in Bierzo and is considered the father of the new Ribeira Sacra. His beginnings in the world of wine can be found in the Faculty of Oenology and in Castro Ventosa, the family winery where he began working when he was only 19 years old.

Raul Perez belongs to the generation of winemakers that has revolutionised this region. He helped in the first elaboration of Alvaro Palacios in the area and also the Peique family in their first vintages, so the spirit of collaboration has always been present in their relationship with the Bierzo Wineries.

He has a particular way of understanding wine, the priority is not the winery, but the vineyard. That is why he works on a multitude of projects taking only the vineyards where he finds the grapes he likes the most as a starting point.

The Artist

Born in Santander, Spain, 1980. Lives in Madrid and works from his studio in the Spanish Capital. The unique iconographic language of Okuda San Miguel, with its geometric structures and multicoloured patterns, together with his active participation in major social projects, has made him an admired contemporary artist.

Okuda's repertoire includes mural and sculptural interventions and gallery exhibitions on four continents. His distinctions include being the first contemporary artist to be chosen for Valencia's prestigious Falles festival, a spectacular series of sculptures for Boston Seaport and his participation in thhe Titanes project, designed to promote socia inclusion through art.

His creations mix colour and geometry with organic shapes to create an evocative symbology. Okuda's work can be classified as Pop Surrealism but maintains the essence of its roots in the streets. Always seeking to inspire viewers, his works raise universal issues while leaving the final interpretation up to them.
