Jacky Blot, perhaps best known for his lauded Chenin Blancs, purchased the 14-hectare estate Domaine De La Butte in 2002. He was regarded as one of France's most revered and talented winemakers, a true pioneer of Loire Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. With the passing of Jacky in 2023, Jean Phillippe carries on his legacy.

Each section of the Slope (the Butte) is vinified separately. The organic certified fruit is hand-picked and foot crushed. After fermentation, the wines are matured in oak.

These Cabernet Franc vines at the top of the south-facing slope are at least 35 years old, on clay and silex over limestone.

"We have moved to the upper section of la butte here, the fruit fermented in cuve but treated to a little barrel for the élevage. Perfumed roses and violets on the nose here, with layers of black cherry and currant sitting below it. It feels beautifully proportioned on the palate, with supple black cherry fruits coated with dark chocolate and scattered with rose petals, supported by a nicely integrated core of fine tannins, leading to a solid, chocolate- and rose-laced grip in the finish and length. Clean, fresh and full of potential, this is a very convincing Haut de la Butte."
