      Tasting Notes and Description
Beautiful purple colour. Fresh notes of raspberry, cassis and violets. On the palate shows intense tannins, excellent concentration and freshness with ripe berries. Drink or age for several decades.

A special vineyard of over 90 years old - the first the couple acquired in 2001 and named after their dear family dog of the same name ('Pintas' means 'Spots' in English).

This wine is a field blend of over 40 indigenous grape varieties. Hand harvested graoes, whole bunches were foot trodden in stone lagares. Ageing in old Port casks for 19 months, after which the wine was bottled.

Sandra Tavares da Silva and Jorge Serôdio Borges began their adventure in 2001. In the beginning, the young couple had no vineyards and no wine, but they shared a dream, a personal project to which they have devoted themselves body and soul.

The name Wine & Soul is the product of their passion and total commitment to wine. From the start, this company’s work has focused on a tireless search for exceptional vines in the Pinhão Valley – the historic heart of great Port wines – to give them a voice.

Wine & Soul embodies the spirit of a new wave of top quality Douro Wines, sourced from very old vineyards, low yields, limited production showcase the character of each particular vineyard and the very special nature of each unique terroir. Wines crafted with minimum intervention, letting nature and terroir take the lead and speak for themselves.

"The 2020 Pintas Vintage Port is a field blend from more than 40 different grapes from very old vines (around 90 years). It comes in with 110 grams of residual sugar and will be bottled in July 2021 after 19 months in old chestnut casks. It was the final blend and out of cask when I tasted it. In classic flavors, this is sensationally delicious, but there is also a backbone, though perhaps less fierce than normal. The winery is never shy in tannins, but right now this has the fruit in charge. I expect this to close down. When it is released, try keeping your hands off it, but if you dive in, you probably should do it early. Still, this is not quite as hard edged as the 2019, which I'd rate a little higher for what seems to be its formidable structure. This may have sexier fruit. Drink to 2070."

"A 90-year-old vineyard with a field blend of more than 40 indigenous grape varieties. The harvest took place on 22 September in perfect weather conditions. All grapes previously selected and non de-stemmed were foot trodden in stone lagares. Aged in an old port cask during 19 months, after which the wine was bottled. Total production 2,000 bottles. TA 5.2 g/l, pH 3.62, RS 100 g/l.
Very dark, almost black to the narrow purple-crimson rim. Seductive, rich black fruits, black plum, damson and blackberry. All entwined with the fruit is the distinctive dark, savoury minerality of the Douro, still showing in this ripe, full-fruited and concentrated vintage. Powerful, dense tannins. Mouth-filling wine with incipient complexity and refinement. Should have a long and glorious life ahead. Succulent and mouth-watering on the long finish, the finely dry tannins adding further freshness to the aftertaste. Drink to 2058."

"Aromas of spiced black cherries and plum skins with licorice, tobacco and black earth. Full and concentrated yet crunchy and fresh, with a chewy grip of tannins and velvety texture. Broad-shouldered and opulent with a long finish. Try from 2026."
