3 Great Wines for Christmas Day

Learn About Wine: Learn about Wine |

Christmas day is stressful; lots of people, lots of preparation, perhaps a somewhat uncomfortable atmosphere when Grandpa starts talking politics. Let us take a little bit of the pressure off by giving you a simple list of 3 wines that will keep you going nicely throughout the day.

Sparkling – Champagne is essential at Christmas. If there’s one time to splash out on the good bubbly, its Christmas day, and we have the perfect bottle. Our brand new Champagne Laurent Lequart Extra Brut Reserve NV is 100% Pinot Meunier and comes from vines in 3 villages. 45% of the Cuvee is made up of Reserve wines from the 2018,17 and 16 vintages. Citrus and pear on the nose with a balanced palate. With a fruity, accessible style this is the perfect Champagne for aperitif or light starters such as oysters or prawns.

Rosé – Yes, Rosé! “But its winter!” I hear you cry. My reply is “so what?”. Rosé should not be maligned to the 3 months (or in our case, 3 days) of sunshine before being confined to the dustbin of history until next summer. Rosé is a great wine for Christmas, as it goes with loads of different dishes, such as Chicken, Crab, Goats’ cheese, Lamb and Prawns. Jim’s very own Chateau Vignelaure Ode to Joy Rosé 2020 is our top choice this year (obviously!)

Red – Christmas and Claret go together like turkey and ham. Despite being known for producing some of the finest, most expensive reds in France, Bordeaux offers some exceptional values as well, like our brand new Chateau Lamothe Gaillard Bordeaux Superieur 2020, A vibrant and alluring deep purple wine with aromas of ripe red and black fruit, full-bodied, fleshy and full on the palate, with fine-grained and silky tannin. A Bordeaux to enjoy over the next few years.
