Alejandro Fernandez and wife Esperanza established Pesquera in 1972.
Alejandro, following family tradition, learned from his father to make wine using grapes from small vineyards. He is the perfect example of the self-made man. While holding down multiple jobs he kept his dream of one day running a bodega. This Pesquera bodega is now one of the most prestigious in Spain and is appreciated around the world. The vineyard is in the Ribera Del Duero region and is made from the Tempranillo grape.
Alejandro now has four bodegas that comprise his wine legacy and allow him to share the passion for winemaking that he has nurtured over time.

Pesquera
Pesquera Crianza is produced from vines that are planted in south-facing gravel soil banks. They are at a high altitude with hot days and cool nights which combine to produce a concentrated and fresh wine. It is aged for 18mths in 90% American oak and 10% French oak. The wine has a beautiful bouquet of plum, cassis and violets leading to a succulent palate of blueberry with underlying cassis.

Pesquera Reserva remains in barrel for 24 months and is then aged in bottle for a further 12 months. This gives the wine aromas of ripe fruit and fine toast, spices and mineral notes. On the palate it feels dry and silky with ripe fruits and mineral hints. The wine is ready to drink now but will continue to develop for many years to come and benefits from decanting before serving.

Condado de Haza
Alejandro spied a neglected slope along the Duero River which had the appearance of being the most ideal vineyard site in the region, perhaps in all Spain. It was a south facing slope along one kilometre of the Duero River with ideal exposure and soils. Made from 100% Tempranillo and aged in American oak barrels for 18 months with a further 6 months in bottle, the wine has a nose of redcurrant and rose petals and the mouthfeel is full, flavoursome and powerful with black fruit notes to the fore.

El Vinculo, La Mancha
In early 1999 Alejandro purchased an abandoned winemaking facility by the train station in Campo de Criptana, last used during World War II for the production of alcohol. He immediately undertook a total renovation and installation of modern winemaking facilities for the production of limited quantities of quality red wine in his signature style. Made from 100% Tempranillo, the wine is unfined and unfiltered. The wine is deeply concentrated, densely fruity and well-structured with floral notes, black fruit, cedar and spice and a long finish.

Dehesa La Granja Cosecha, Castilla
Dehesa La Granja is Alejandro’s personal project. In 1998 he went to Zamora one of Spains oldest wine making regions where he recognised the potential of this estate. Made from 100% Tempranillo the wine spends two years in new American oak before bottling. It has intense aromas of leather and liquorice and hints of spice and stewed black fruits. The palate is ripe and meaty, with round tannins and a lengthy finish.
