The Chocolate Block 2008 Pk6

Pack of 6 x 750 ml Bottle The 2008 Chocolate Block is a blend of Syrah (69%), Grenache (12%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), Cinsault (7%) and Viognier (2%). The Syrah is sourced form Malmesbury, an area with soil conditions that contribute to deep-rooted vines that produce superb concentration of flavour and excellent structure. Grenache from old vines grown in Citrusdal is aged in 600 litre barrels to retain freshness of fruit. The blend is completed by Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier raised in Boekenhoutskloof's organically farmed vineyards and Cinsault from old vines in Welbedacht in Wellington. The wine matures in French oak barrels for 15 months before it undergoes a light fining. On the nose the wine shows ripe plum, black fruit and violet aromas with spicy undertones. Well integrated tannins and perfectly pitched acidity lead to a rounded and satisfying mouthfeel and a delightfully long finish.
This superb wine was awarded a Silver Medal at the International Wine Challenge in 2009. Decanter awarded it 4-stars: ...this wacky blend of Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet, Cinsault and Viognier is perfumed, smooth, spicy, complex and packed with blackberry and apricot fruit. (Decanter, Jan 2010).
