| John Forrest, owner of the eponymous Forrest Estate in Marlborough - also co-owns vineyards in Hawkes Bay, North Island on the Gimblett Gravels appellation; an area which covers 800 hectares of gravely soils. Such is the uniqueness of the soil and its climate, it has become one of the New World's first appellation controlées, designed to monitor the quality and provenance of its output.
In February 2009, at a blind tasting held in London of six 2005 clarets and six 2006 Gimblett Gravels Cabernet/Merlots, John Forrest's 2006 Cornerstone Cabernet / Merlot came sixth, with Lafite, Mouton, Angelus, and Haut-Brion ahead of it. The price differential between the 1st and 6th placed wines was 65:1. No guessing which was the £15 bottle and which was the £975 bottle. The illustrious panel of tasters included Oz Clarke, Michael Schuster, James Lawther, and Jancis Robinson MW who commented "It wasn't evident as to which wine was (from) which (region)".
We are offering you the opportunity to purchase the astonishingly excellent value 2006 Cornerstone En Primeur.
We will be shipping this wine to arrive early in 2010 when Duty, VAT and delivery will be charged. Drink 2012 - 2018.
