      Tasting Notes and Description
Straw yellow in colour. As usual, the Goldert shows some austerity in his young age. The nose reveals aromas of ripe fruit, slightly minty and spicy, but above all also a light complex reduction typical of this wine. The aromatic opens gently after some time an aeration on a superb panoply of exotic fruits, always remaining on a very elegant register. Indice 1: The attack on the palate expresses lively tension, the structure is tight and vertical. The wine backbone is built on a saline acidity which brings a lot of freshness and elegance to the finish. It is undoubtedly a great dry wine for laying down. (Winemakers note, August 2022)

The Muscat from the Grand Cru Goldert is a wine that holds a special place in the range produced by the Doaine Zind-Humbrecht. Often too aromatic and evolving too quickly, the Muscat Petits Grains (red and white) reach complexity and ageability on the Oolitic limestone of Goldert. This Grand Cru has always had a great reputation for this grape variety and this explains why it represents an important part of the Goldert plantations. This moderately late ripening terroir, exposed to the east on deep soils, allows for regular ripening and always keeps a significant acidity in the grapes. As often in the past, the 2020 was the last wine of this vintage to finish its fermentation, we almost had to postpone its bottling!

Achieving a great terroir expression on such grapes requires a vineyard capable to slow down the ripeness but also over power the grape variety characteristics. Something that the Goldert can do brilliantly. Muscat is also a rare wine in Alsace, difficult to explain, because most wines made around the world from this grape are sweet. Here in Alsace, not only are they much drier, but they also carry a wonderful acidity and lower alcohol potential. They are fabulous food wines!

"A very complex and structured wine for muscat, with aromas of star fruit, passion fruit,Thai basil and mandarin, plus a hint of youthful yeastiness. Great textural complexity considering this weighs in at just under 13% alcohol. Plenty of chalky drive through the long, expansive finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold."

"Pure, fresh and precise on the tonic nose, with candied lemon and grapefruit aromas as well as some orange notes, the 2020 Muscat Goldert is a rich and dense but vivacious, saline and finely tannic Muscat that was bottled with 12.8% stated alcohol. It's very good, with an intense finish. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2022. Drink to 2027 - 2040.
