      Tasting Notes and Description
Dark cherry red in colour. The bouquet shows perfumed, earthy and spicy with cherries, plums, dried herbs and violets. The palate is spicy and sweet fruit aromas of black cherry and plums. Rich, balanced and elegant wine with silky tannins, and a long lingering finish.

Renowned sailors, the Butterworth Family are the new custodians of Julicher Vineyard, planted in the iconic soils of Te Muna. All their wines are Estate produced, made with a light touch by winemaker and biotechnologist Martin Bell.

The Julicher family - the founding custodians and their vineyard's namesake were like a lot of the pioneering families in the New Zealand wine industry. Hard working immigrants who arrived with little and looked to make a big impact with their new life.

Wim Julicher (Yu-li-ka) set out the vineyard, dug every hole and planted every grape. He got to know the site pretty well as just one year earlier his ambitions of becoming a top-quality olive oil producer were put on ice (literally). Wim originally planted the Te Muna vineyard as an olive grove. The site's unique aspect made it far too cold for the poor olive trees. Luckily for them, it creates the perfect amount of pressure for the divine struggle required to produce world class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

"Elegant Pinot Noir with plum, black cherry, violet, cedar and subtle wood-smoke flavours. A backbone of fine, drying tannins suggests cellaring potential, although the wine is fairly approachable now."
