      Tasting Notes and Description
Vinedos y Bodegas Dominio De Tares Bembibre 2016, 75cl

Located in the region of El Bierzo (León), the winery is settled in an exceptional area surrounded by high quality, old vineyards.

Dominio de Tares combines tradition in growing and modernity in elaboration in order to get all the essence from the grape in the best conditions. Our aim is to produce great whithe and red wines which express the pure charccter of the El Bierzo hollow.

Dominio de Tares has been able to profit from these remarkable conditions to produce great wines from mencía and godello varieties. The result is a range of white and red wines, elegant and complex which captivate and express the quality of the terroir.

BEMBIBRE 2015 - THE ESSENCE OF BIERZO

100% Mencia harvested from 80 year old vines at an altitude of 620 metres. Hand harvested bunch by bunch, fermented with its wild yeasts and aged for 16 months in new French oak barrels.

Bright wine of deep ruby colour, some garnet highlights, which shows a lot of concentration and depth of colour in the glass. On the nose, the wine is at once complex and deep with remarkable aromas of ripe black berry, prune, roasted nuts and balsamic herbs.

On the palate Bembibre is balanced and intense, full bodied with a charred oak character. A dry start, velvety alcohol and acidity, very rounded tannins and commanding flavours of ripe wild berries, prune and toasted bread.

We recommend to enjoy this wine with rich recipes like slow cooked stews, game or baked lamb. We advise decanting the wine 30 minutes before drinking and serve at a temperature of 16C for a full expression of aromas.

"Very old vines at 650m. Aged in French oak barrels for 15 months. Unnecessarily heavy bottle. Blackish purplish crimson. Sweet, rich, macerated brambles on the nose. Sweet and round - not unlike a very fine Pomerol in texture (sorry to compare to a French wine!) but with the energy of Mencía and the 'minerality' of a fine Bierzo. Clearly a good vineyard and good selection. Not a silly price. Long and sumptuous. Drink 2019 - 2029.
      17.5 points."
