Jim Clendenen, the "Mind Behind" Au Bon Climat, decided to forgo a career in Law and focus on crafting handmade, artisanal wines in California's Santa Barbara County.
In 1981, Jim undertook the colossal task of travelling around the world to complete 3 vintages in 12 months (California, France and Australia!)
Jim founded ABC in 1982 and went on to become one of California's most respected, as well as outspoken, winemakers.
ABC was shortlisted in 1990 and 1991 as one of The Best Wineries in the Word by legendary wine critic Robert Parker, as well as one of fifty world-wide creators of Modern Classic Wines according to Oz Clarke.
Despite the Rockstar hair and full grey beard, Jim AKA "The Wild Boy", crafts elegant, terroir driven wines with an organic approach and a respect for the character of the grape; alcohol is moderate, oak influence is not top priority and the wines are exceptionally versatile at the table.
Our ABC mixed cases demonstrate Jim's skill in crafting universally revered, Burgundy-style wines, sourced from some of California's great vineyards.
