Manda Chuva Branco 2019
A super new wine from Herdade de Portocarro - This second edition of our Manda Chuva is even more mysterious than the first one. With a little more Sangiovese and also Arinto, this wine expresses all that we like to show: irreverence and Portocarro's terroir. Manda Chuva, a blanc de noir (red grapes removed from their skin's and pressed to make a white wine) made from mainly Sangiovese. The wine is fermented in used oak vats and matured in stainless steel resulting in a very interesting and unusual white.
On the nose the first impact is freshness, with more citrus than its 2018 brother, alongside grapefruit and tangerine. On the palate, the beginning is shy, a little closed. With the temperature rising, it starts to reveal all its mystique, mint with lime and a touch of salt. In between, one finds nectarines and loquats, a type of yellow plum, reminding one of the times in which we picked them hot from the trees in our grandparents orchard (for some of us). The Manda-Chuva has an admirable persistence, very gastronomic, like all Portocarro wines.
It matches a beautiful, very slowly grilled matured beef. It goes well with a green asparagus risotto. Likewise, a delicious Sushi or a tuna Sashimi are a perfect combination with our Manda Chuva; basically anything that comes from the sea and is marvelously fresh.
