Chateau du Hureau Lisagathe 2016, 75cl

The Chateau du Hureau vineyard spreads over about twenty plots covering around 20 hectares, over the villages of Dampierre sur Loire, Souzay-Champigny and Saumur.18.5 hectares are planted with Cabernet Franc, all of them within the appellation of Saumur-Champigny.

The whole vineyard is planted on the tuffeau, a sedimentary limestone from the cretacian era, with which all the Loire castles and houses were built.

In addition to its aesthetic quality (just think: if the châteaux of Chambord, Chenonceau or Saumur had been made with another stone, they surely wouldn’t reflect the sun the same way), the tuffeau is also renowned to be an ideal base for vineyards soils: it heats up easily after the winter and regulates beautifully the water supply during summer.

Lisagathe - Located on the hillside, just above the Chateau du Hureau and its cave, the Lisagathe terroir deserves without any doubt the highest rating amongst Saumur-Champignys. Made from the top plots of the property’s finest parcels. The parcels’ topsoil (with a higher percentage of fertile clay) is the reason why the silky and mellow tannins are so impressive. They also are the guarantee of a very long aging potential. This is the Grand Cru from Chateau du Hureau.

Food pairing; Lamb roasted in the oven with peppers and aubergines.

"Named after fourth-generation winemaker Philippe Vatan's two daughters, Lisa and Agathe, this wine is produced only in top vintages. It comes from selected parts of the estate's best vineyards, located above the underground cellars. It's ripe, warm and generous, with a dense texture and rich fruits. It's almost ready to drink, but wait until 2020."
