Established in 1852, Murrieta is one of the oldest and most respected bodegas in Rioja Alta. Their wines are concentrated and long-lived and some, like “Castillo Ygay”, have become legendary amongst wine-lovers. Marqués de Murrieta has not stood back and stagnated
A wine of limited production from a centennial single vineyard (An old single vineyard called Capellania located at 485 meters altitude within the 300 hectare Ygay estate surrounding the winery in the southern point of Rioja Alta wine area) which has been kept for 15 months in new French oak barrels and one year in bottle; giving an astonishing complexity, structure and elegance. It is a very singular white wine, with the soul of a red wine which surprises all who taste it.
A white wine that exceeds all expectations with its complexity and structure, it combines the quality of selected grapes grown on a traditional single vineyard coupled with modern winemaking precision.
The result is a surprising white wine of great bouquet, a white wine of character born to surprise by its uniqueness and perfect to accompany a great variety of rich dishes, with a magnificent potential to evolve and last gracefully in the bottle.
Pale gold. Intense aroma of ripe golden fruit with smoke and almonds. The palate is dry and savoury with oak vanilla overlaid with golden plum and quince fruit, and a lovely balancing saline freshness on the finish. A modern take on the traditional white Rioja style.
Smoked fish, white meat, foie, cheeses, Asian food and rice dishes.
"Murrieta's single-vineyard, all-Viura reserva is a modernised traditional white Rioja, entirely aged in new French oak. Flavours of pear, white pepper and subtle vanilla spice are complemented by chalky minerality, bright acidity and a saline finish.
