Dog Point Pinot Noir 2016, 75cl
Located in Marlborough, New Zealand's premium wine growing region, Dog Point Vineyards produce wines that respect the natural integrity of the land from which they are made and, reflect the experience and passion of the people that make them.
Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable wine-growing experience of Ivan and Margaret Sutherland and James and Wendy Healy, all former personnel at Cloudy Bay. The philosophy is total involvement by the partners from the vineyard through the winemaking process to marketing regionally distinctive and vineyard expressive wines.
Bouquet: Bright, lifted, red fruit driven with Marlborough's hallmark spiciness complimented by dried herb, smokey and meaty notes in the background.
Palate: A juicy and plush Pinot Noir with pure red berry flavours. The wines cleansing acidity and fine, soft tannins are evident, characteristic of Marlborough's clay based Southern Valley soils.
Food match: Duck and other game birds, red meats, mushroom dishes.
"Bright pale to mid crimson. Zippy, lively fruit that's very direct but perhaps does not display that much complexity initially. Nice balance and no shortage of fruit. No excess sweetness and certainly no evident oak or alcohol. Well behaved with a hint of violets but perhaps not such a standout as the Chardonnay 2016.
(Jancis Robinson, JR Purple Pages, December 2018).
"Fragrant, aromatic pinot noir with seductive floral, cherry and subtle spicy flavours. Delicately succulent wine that has clearly been made with a light touch but has impressive power and a lengthy finish. This wine has the X-factor - every sip is even better than the last.
(Bob Campbell, Wine Spectator, April 2018)
"It’s a full-bodied, velvety beauty with plenty of time up its sleeve. Buy a bottle to decant and serve in large glasses now, and stash at least half a case somewhere cool and dark for a good half decade or more."
