Tom's Block Pinot Noir 2017, New Zealand
Immediately on the nose and through to the palate this wine wraps you up in soft leather, sinking further into the well-worn couch with each sip. Fine and dusty tannins reminiscent of the darkest chocolates are woven together with notes of warm summer berries. The wine has refreshing acidity underpinned with truly masterful oak management creating a Pinot of sophisticated allure.
Mas Lou Amboro 2021, Languedoc, France
The Mas Lou domain is situated in Fos, a little town down the Cévennes. The vineyard elevation fluctuates between 200 and 300 meters. This location of middle altitude gives the Mas Lou wines freshness and delicacy, two essential features. Amboro is composed of Grenache and Cinsault. Expect notes of fresh strawberry and raspberry with an elegant body and refreshing acidity. Supremely elegant and quaffable.
Finca Sophenia Malbec 2020, Mendoza, Argentina
Complex aromas of plums, ripe cherries and violets are embellished by hints of dried fruits and minty nuances. Smooth, powerful and ultimately massively satisfying. This wine is a consistent high scorer in independent tastings and competitions, and a consistent favourite in the JN store.
Domaine des Aubuisieres Vouvray Sec Silex 2021, Loire Valley, France
This interesting and delightful dry Vouvray shows a very clean and intense nose with supple aromas of ripe fruit. Wonderfully fresh with good underlying acidity and a nice balance; rich on fruit with apples, pears, peaches, hazelnuts and almonds. It has a complex and well textured finish and impressive length. The wine is made from 100% Chenin Blanc grapes.
Butterworth Layline Sauvignon Blanc 2019, New Zealand
Renowned sailors, the Butterworth Family are the new custodians of Julicher Vineyard, planted in the iconic soils of Te Muna. Tropical fruit salad with freshly rubbed sage, this wine exhibits Te Muna Road's bright acidity and mouth filling texture. The acid backbone of the Te Muna Valley complements the mid palate richness from the time on fluffy lees. This Sauvignon Blanc has a powerful length, making it perfect for oysters on the deck, overlooking the ocean.
La Clef du Récit Sancerre Blanc 2021, Loire Valley, France
Anthony Girard, an endearing and energetic young winemaker, started his own production in 2012. Precision in the vineyards and winery are key elements of his progression. His Sancerre is textured, tight with minerality and packed full of youthful white fruit character. Bracing acidity and wonderful aromatics are hallmarks of this stunning wine. Absolutely spectacular when served with a lighter cheese course.
