Tangible proof of elegance, balance and constancy characteristic of the Marques de Murrieta Winery and its surrounding vineyards situated in the Ygay Estate, it is a red reserva wine with a balanced aging of two years in new and partly new American oak barrels and a year and a half in bottle. The result is an elegant wine that combines complexity and fineness, summing up the best attributes of our identity and actuality. Marqués de Murrieta is more than a brand in the international market, it represents age-old wisdom expressed in one of the most recognized wines of Spain. With our daily work, respect and love for our land, the selection of the best grapes and the attention to detail throughout its almost four years of production, Marqués de Murrieta is a safe and constant value of the best quality. Maria Vargas, head winemaker, brings youth and modern ideas to the historic bodega. She continues to develop and evolve the 'Murrieta' signature style to the wines highlighting more of the natural fruit flavours, creating supple yet age-worthy red wines.
Grapes are sourced from our Ygay Estate: 300 hectares of vineyards surrounding the winery in the southernmost point of Rioja Alta. Altitude ranges from 320 to 485 meters above sea level. Grapes are first de-stemmed and then fermented in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks for 8 days, with constant skin contact.
Grape varieties: 84% Tempranillo, 9% Graciano, 5% Mazuelo, 22% Garnacha. The wine is aged for 19 months in 225 litre American oak barrels.
Flavours of ripe plum, red cherry and berries blend with spicy notes of licorice and sweet balsamic. The wine is silky and well balanced with rounded tannins and refreshing acidity. The long, mineral finish has notes of sweet spice and ripe plum fruit.
The Marqués de Murrieta Reserva finds harmony with lamb, beef and - obviously - jamón! This is the perfect partner..
We recommend you decant the wine 20 minutes before serving it at 16 to 18C.
"2014 was a somewhat-challenging vintage, with warm and cold spells and some rain during the summer. The fermentation usually lasts eight days with pigéage and remontage, pressed and put to age in 225-liter American oak barrels for 19 months. This is still a little young and has had less time in bottle. It might need a little bit more time in bottle. The nose is subtle and very harmonious, with aromas of red cherries and some aromatic herbs. The palate is soft, it has a velvety texture with polished, round tannins, and there is a subtlety and harmony that is laudable."

"Tempranillo based, with a growing percentage of Graciano and some support from Mazuelo and Garnacha, it reflects the cooler, Atlantic conditions of 2014. Focused, pure and nuanced with scented oak, fine tannins and supporting acidity.
