      Tasting Notes
Herdade do Portocarro has produced unquestionably distinctive wines from its very genesis. Its first wines - Herdade do Portocarro, Anima and Cavalo Maluco - were immediately positioned amongst the top rated national wines. The project is based on a philosophy of production of finest wines in limited and exclusive quantities. Wines that impress and enthrall, thus providing unique moments for the most demanding consumers. Herdade do Portocarro wines possess a intense and complex personality. They are tense and earthy but also extremely elegant and fresh. They are aimed at a sophisticated, educated and sensitive consumer who looks for and enjoys to taste the difference.

This wine belongs to our range of Super Premium wines. Produced only in years when the grapes of the Galego Dourado grape variety are at their perfect maturation point, this wine has behind us our philosophy of sharing what Portocarro has the best: our wines, the traditional and authentic methods, life simple countryside, serenity and beauty of the landscape, the joie de vivre. Pepe has 2 hectares out of a total of 6 planted in the world to this amazing variety.

Tasting notes: colour clear, open and clear. Discreet in the nose with citrus notes, flintstone and wet stone. In the mouth the attack is also citric, but here white fleshed fruits become apparent, pear and again wet stone, smokey minerality and salinity. The acidity is very balanced, fresh, full, long and persistent.

Nominated 2015 producer of the year by the most widely read Portuguese wine magazine "Wine - Essencia do Vinho", Herdade do Portocarro winery is always rated among the top wine producers in Portugal.

"This is a varietal version of the very rare grape traditionally associated with Carcavelos near Lisbon. Tangy nose with hint of furniture polish! Edge of something a bit waxy. Lots of body and interest. Saline hint. Lots of lime. Light astringency on the end. Very small production. A real curiosity. Wonderful to have a chance to taste it unblended.
      16.5 points."
(Jancis Robinson, JR Purple Pages, July 2018)
