      Tasting Notes
      Lagrein, Alto Aldige

One of the least talked about notable wine regions in Italy is Alto Adige. The comparatively small winegrowing region of Alto Adige with its unique variety has precisely the necessary character for unique wines to achieve great acclaim. What is unique in Italy is the fact that around twenty different grape varieties grow in Alto Adige.

Lagrein is one of the Alto Adige's native varieties. Very dark garnet in colour with violet reflexes, and an aroma of violets, black woodland berry fruit (bilberry and blackberry) with hints of dark chocolate; Mouth-filling and spicy on the palate with ripe, velvety tannins and a long long finish. Lagrein's unique character has gained it as a favoured place among Italy's top wines and among the attentive consumers around the world.

An excellent partner for beef, lamb and venison dishes in reduced sauces; Perfect also with Alto Adige's traditional charcuterie and cheeses.

"Alto Adige is a region full of high-quality cooperatives, but few are as consistent as Cantina Colterenzio. Once again, I came away from my tastings deeply impressed with the wines of Colterenzio. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar these are some of the finest wines from Northern Italy." (Antoniio Galloni, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate #184, June 2015)
