A new, exciting and dynamic range of wines here at JN.
The Hesketh Wine Company is a small, family owned producer of high quality, yet accessible wines. We work with our own growers and process our own wines like traditional wineries. But rather than attempt to be all things to all people from one region, our approach is to remain focused on the individual strengths of different South Australian growing regions.
House style – Wines are made to a 'Hesketh' style, which is based on balance and complexity but more importantly, 'drinkability'. Wines with generous flavours and aromatics, which also retain a sense of place – wines which reflect the vineyards they are grown in.
Australia has produced an incredible array of table wines since the 1800s, but it is the amalgam of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz that has made what is widely accepted as the country’s greatest, and become internationally recognised as Australia’s signature red.
‘Mk 02’ is made up of 60% Reynell Selection Cabernet Sauvignon from Southern Coonawarra and 40% Eden Valley Shiraz.
A full-flavoured 2015 vintage from both regions has produced a complex and brooding style of wine. The Eden Valley component brings an added aromatic freshness which has paired nicely with the traditional Coonawarra Cabernet notes. Think mulberry, cedar and dark chocolate.
"60% Reynell Selection cabernet sauvignon from the Parker Estate Abbey Vineyard in Coonawarra, 40% shiraz from the Eden Valley, fermented separately, matured for 18 months in French oak before blending. Given the grape resources and the vinification, it would be surprising if this wasn’t a top flight wine – and there’s no surprise. It marries intensity with elegance, red and blackcurrant with red and black cherry fruit held in a filmy veil of high quality oak and ripe tannins. Great stuff.”
