Domaine Gayda Figure Libre Freestyle Cabernet Franc
We called it "Figure Libre" because we have chosen the freedom of creation and expression, combining the subtleness of the Loire with the bold character of the Languedoc. Away from the rigours of the appellation, in 2004 we planted the grape varieties which we felt would be the best suited, those most able to reveal the expression and the qualities of our Brugairolles sandstone terroir. Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc, rarely grown in the region, originate from the Loire Valley, home of Winemaker Vincent Chansault.
Opaque, perfumed with fragrant black cherry, cassis and spice. Full bodied, intense with countless layers of flavour including blackcurrant, cedar and graphite. Dense fruit on the palate is bound by a structure of fine grained tannins and a lively acidity. This wine shows great depth and character and yet is refined with a long, elegant finish.
"Deep crimson. Strong Cabernet Franc perfume. Perhaps just very slightly too oaky but lovely succulence of fruit. Unusual for Languedoc. Very easy to like, sweet and forward. Not the most refreshing Cab Franc though. (Apologies for nitpicking as this will certainly give pleasure and has some admirable persistence.) Acid phobes may not like the very, very slightly vegetal note. I am not among them.
