Andre Dezat, along with his sons and grandsons, produce this classy wine from fruit sourced from four villages within Pouilly which, between them, offer the various key soil types essential for top notch Pouilly Fume. The vines have an average age of 25 years. This is a clean, limey, steely Sauvignon Blanc, ripe but restrained. Serve between 10 and 12 °C. Enjoy as an aperitif or with seafood, oysters, smoked fish or foie gras.
Just across the river from Sancerre, Pouilly Fumé is nonetheless a completely different beast from its Sancerre counterpart, best demonstrated by wines from each commune made by the same producer. Where Sancerre is lighter and more ethereal, Pouilly tends to have more weight and power; both are clearly related yet distinctly different. Plump and weighty, yet still racy and linear, this is serious wine which will give a huge amount of pleasure.
