Pajzo Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 2006
In 1737 the Tokaj Wine Region was declared the first closed wine region in the world; since 2002 it has belonged to the UNESCO World Heritage. The area of 6202 hectares (15,325 acres) lies in Northeastern Hungary, in a triangle between the Sátor hills of Abaújszántó and Sátoraljaújhely and the Kopasz hill in Tokaj.
Golden, young Aszú with a supremely refined inner world. Citrus and meadow flowers abound in the nose. The wine lover senses caramel, citrus and dried fruits, and white flowers on the palate with the discreet appearance of buttery, almond notes of barrel ageing. The typical minerality of Tokaji wine brings a slight saltiness to this drinkable wine thanks to its delightful acids. Elegant this promises to be a great wine with serious ageing potential.
Golden with a bronze hue, intensive fruit aromas assail the senses. A very lovely wine from a great vintage with white fruit aromas while honeycomb toffee, caramel, candied orange peel, citrus and bergamot play on the palate. Charming with a lingering finish. It promises to age wonderfully in the bottle for many years.
Harvest - We harvested the aszú berries from the end of October – till the end of November.
Fermentation and aging in 220 L Szerednyei oak barrels from the Zemplén hills, for 3 years.
Recommended with lemon cake, dark chocolate citrus or orange desserts, dark chocolate caramel cake but it is also a noble companion to savoury biscuits, quiche Lorraine and roast meats with fruits and Peking duck.
Gold Medal - Decanter World Wine Awards 2014, London.
