The Melgaço region, the most northerly point of Portugal, is protected by a range of mountains that create the perfect conditions of rainfall, temperature and sunshine needed to perfectly ripen the Alvarinho grapes. The grapes for this wine, Alvarinho and Loureiro, two noble grape varieties of Minho in northern Portugal, are harvested by hand into small boxes. The palate shows citrus flavours with an underlying vibrant minerality. The Alvarinho, full of tropical fruit and structure, contrasts with the Loureiro, floral and full of elegance, which gives this wine a lovely balance. It is ideal as an aperitif or to accompany seafood dishes and fish. Incidentally, the name ALLO comes from the first two letters of Alvarinho and Loureiro.
"Has the fragrance of both varieties. Stone fruit, pear and a laurel/floral delicacy. On the palate, intense and vibrant citrus and fresh apricot. Superb freshness and yet still in balance thanks to the fruit purity and ripeness, even at such moderate alcohol. Juicy and impressive concentration for an entry-level wine. Slight lees texture gives it another dimension. 16.5 Points. "(Julia Harding, JR Purple Pages, Feb 2016)
