      Tasting Notes
One of Nicholson's most popular wines this beauty is crafted from Malbec grown at an altitude of 4000 feet high in the Andes. The grapes are picked by hand before undergoing a rigorous selection process. The wine is aged in French and American oak barrels for three to four months to soften and add texture.

The finished product is an attractive red colour with violet hues. Aromas are primarily those of ripe fruit - cherries, blackberries, blueberries and fresh plums combined with spicy and floral hints. In the mouth the sweet and round tannins lend elegance and balance.

An Ideal partner for any sort of rich meat dish, BBQ's have a natural affinity.

The 2016 vintage of Altosur Malbec was recently awarded 93 points by Decanter Magazine - October 2016.

"The 2016 Altosur Malbec from the cooler vintage of recent times was very young and primary. The year produced fresh and light wines with vibrant acidity. This is obviously young and perfumed, with fine tannins and a very pleasant mouthfeel. 89 Points."
      (Luis Gutierrez,, December 2016)

      The history/story of the vineyard
Finca Sophenia is an argentine winery recognized as one of the top quality wine producers from Argentina. To achieve its goals, Roberto Luka, its founder and conductor, chose Gualtallary; one of the most prestigious regions in Argentina. The result was rewarding and the wines have already been praised by wine writers in Europe, America and Asia. The wines started to sell worldwide in 2004 and are currently available in 25 countries.
The wine making team is led by Lic. Germán Masera and winemaker Matías Michelini. The vineyard site consists of sandy and rocky soil with excellent natural drainage. An area of the vineyard has been reserved for the Malbec plants raised in Mendoza: low-productivity clones that were chosen for their aromatic properties, and whose stalks come from the most representative vineyards of this unique region, where the Malbec finds its clearest expression. The irrigation water comes from the Andes’ thaw. The system that distributes it was structured to obtain small berries and a low production per hectare. This helps to produce wines of great complexity and high fruit concentration - that age well.
Roberto Luka, inspirer of Finca SOPHENIA, holds a recognized background in the wine world. He was Managing Director of one of the main wine exporter companies of his country and President of Wines of Argentina. In 1997, he founded Finca SOPHENIA naming it this way after the names of his partner´s daughter, Sophia and his own daughter, Eugenia.
