IWC bronze medal award-winner 2017
Blended mainly from two indigenous Portuguese grapes,Trincadeira (40%) and Aragones (40%). Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with controlled temperature. Sweet, pure and quite lush on the nose, the palate is juicy, pure and vibrant with sweet bramble and berry fruit. On the palate, good volume and depth shows, light tannin and well integrated acidity brings freshness and lift! Best drunk in its youth and adolescence, Alento is the perfect accompaniment to a lamb casserole.
There are other contenders, but for my money this family-run operation helmed by Miguel and Luis Louro is the best winery in Alentejo. They are well-worth a preview even so. (Mark Squires, erobertparker.com, Aug 2014)
