Rocca Delle Macie Chianti Riserva di Fizzano 2012
The winery’s historic cru, it already had all the characteristic of the Gran Selezione before the new category was born. It is made using grapes grown on the vineyard of the same name in Fizzano, which extends across 35 hectares of sandy, pebbly soils that are perfect for exalting the fragrances of the Sangiovese grape.
Arriving at the Riserva di Fizzano estate and finding yourself in front of 35 hectares of highly specialised vineyards with an enviable south-westerly exposure, featuring highly ordered rows that work their way across sinuous hillsides, it is easy to understand why ‘Chiantishire’ is renowned the world over. This is the evocative backdrop against which we harvest the grapes that will be used to produce our Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Riserva di Fizzano.
Bright ruby-red in color, with ripe berry fruit overtones and a strong mineral note, it is an elegant wine that lasts and lasts on the palate. It has a verve and a character that allow it to mature over time without losing its fascination.
Riserva di Fizzano Gran Selezione is the expression of grapes from a single vineyard that extends across 35 hectares, with rows nestling on the gently rolling hillsides. The gravel- and sand-rich soil is perfect for bringing out the fragrances of the Sangiovese grape, and the south-western exposure is ideal for absorbing the sunshine and winds in the right proportions to promote slow, constant ripening.
The combination of these exclusive factors produces Riserva di Fizzano Gran Selezione, which stands out for its elegance, wide-ranging aromas and immense, proven durability, which sees the wine getting better with every passing year.

"Last year, this wine was a Riserva (now it is a Gran Selezione). The 2012 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Riserva di Fizzano shows ample fullness and ripeness with dark cherry and spice aromas that are both compelling and generous. This wine shows a good sense of lightness and balance. It is easy to drink and approachable, but it also offers bigger structure to pair with succulent meat dishes.
