Kilikanoon Lackey Shiraz
Kilikanoon Wines has been named the James Halliday Winery of the Year in the "2013 Wine Companion". The winery, established in 1997 by Kevin Mitchell, with grapes from the two vineyards owned by Kevin and his father Mort, specialises in producing wines with strong regional and varietal definition.
The Lackey is the first offering Shiraz of top Clare Valley winery Kilikanoon. The nose suggests red fruit, plum, spices, pepper and a touch of cedar. The palate has dark fruit, pepper, and some meatiness. Tannins are smooth and sweet and the finish is long. Bottled without fining or filtration, the wine is aged for 15 months in seasoned American oak.
'Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 The Lackey Shiraz has notes of ripe blackberries, stewed plums and spice box. Medium-bodied, soft, uncomplicated and ready for business, it is a spicy red for everyday drinking. 85 Points.' (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, erobertparker.com, June 2016)
