Domaine Bott Geyl Riesling Schoenenbourg Grand Cru 2012 75cl
Schoenenbourg is a relatively large Grand Cru vineyard (53 hectares) and has a very complicated terroir. The base is marl with gypsum stones called Keuper and Vosges sandstone plus fine layers of Muschelkalk (seashells), with a sub-soil rich in minerals. It faces due south at Riquewihr and south-east closer to Zellenberg. Riesling here is the ideal wine variety for great dry wines as well as superb Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles.
The dry Rieslings tend to be rather austere in their youth but later they can become superb.
"From ripe and a little bit of overripe berries the 2012 Riesling Grand Cru Schoenenbourg is intense, deep and highly complex on the nose that displays very delicate fruit aromas. Bottled with 12 grams per liter of residual sugar, this is a very complex and persistent cru full of tension and expression. A great Riesling in the dry style that reflects the highly complex terroir of the Schoenenbourg with its marl, gypsum, red sandstone and seashell limestone soils.

"Honeyed botrytis character on the nose - apricot and orange. Those same flavours on the palate and tastes medium dry rather than off dry. Well balanced but would need careful food matching. Rich packed with flavour and finishes long and fresh.
