Beaucastel 2001

Pack of 12 x 750 ml Bottle "Beaucastel has been on a terrific qualitative roll over the last four vintages, and the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape (which Francois Perrin feels is similar to the 1990, although I don't see that as of yet) is a 15,000-case blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the balance split among the other permitted varietals of the appellation. This inky/ruby/purple-colored cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cherry fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mourvedre-dominated cuvee. Full-bodied and powerful, it will undoubtedly close down over the next several years, not to re-emerge for 7-8 years. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025. 96 pts." (eRobertParker.com, Feb 2004). Read More......

Shafer Hillside Select 1998 Pk6

Pack of 6 x 750 ml Bottle "The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is a candidate for wine of the vintage. It continues to gain weight, and is better each time I retaste it. Its opaque purple color is accompanied by gorgeous aromas of graphite, vanilla, black currant liqueur, and minerals. This rich, full-bodied Cabernet offers sweet tannin, a layered texture, and a finish that lasts for 45-50 seconds. It is a splendid accomplishment in a difficult vintage. Anticipated maturity: now-2017. 94 pts." (eRobertParker.com, Aug 2002). Read More...... Sorry but this item is currently out of stock. • N/A
Pack of 6 x 750 ml Bottle Made on the 741 acre Ygay Estate in Rioja Alta, at an altitude of between 420 m to 500 m above sea-level. The grapes are a blend of 84% Tempranillo, 13% Garnacha and 3% Mazuela. The grapes are picked by hand and carried to the winery in small trays. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 22 months in 225 litre American oak barrels. A minimum of 12 months is spent in botle before release. an excellent partner for red meats and cured ham, as well as grilled fish and dishes with rich sauces. Serving temperature : 16-18 ºC.
"The 2006 Reserva is made up of 86% Tempranillo, 7% Mazuelo, 3% Garnacha, and 2% Graciano aged for 18 months in American oak, the first 8 in new barrels and the last 10 in seasoned oak. Dark ruby red in color, it offers up an enticing nose of cedar, spice box, incense, violets, and black fruits. On the palate it is a supple, easygoing effort with silky tannins and a seamless finish. Because of its impeccable balance it can be approached now but will continue to provide pleasure through 2021 if not longer. 89 pts." (Jay Miller,eRobertParker.com, June 2011).

Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2011 Pk6

  • N/A

Pack of 6 x 750 ml Bottle Stellar status is deservedly accorded to the wine that was the catalyst for the elevation of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to international stardom. Pale straw green in colour and enticingly fragrant, the 2011 Sauvignon Blanc offers lifted aromas of ripe stonefruit and juicy citrus with underlying notes of blackcurrant leaf and tomato plant spice.
The world's most famous Sauvignon Blanc has had a few rocky years, but I reckon the 2011 is right back on form. This is a bit expensive compared with its peer group, but it's really tasty. And it has that fabulous label. So stylish. I grew up with this wine, so it still has a strong association for me. 13.5% alcohol. Aromatic and lively with lovely grapefruit, white peach and elderflower notes. It's quite exotic. The palate is ripe and fruity with fresh citrus and tropical fruit characters, as well as subtle greenness. Beautifully vibrant. Drink this as young as you can! 91/100. (Jamie Goode, wineanorak.com, 9 Oct 2011).
"Still a pup, but poised to pounce, this has quite exuberant lemon and gooseberry flesh held in check by grassy mineral notes and a touch of tomato leaf. Confident and tasty, and getting better with every sip". (Drinking Outside the Box, simonwoods.com, 18 Oct 2011).

Ridge Monte Bello 2008 Pk6

  • N/A
  • N/A
  • N/A
Pack of 6 x 750 ml Bottle The Monte Bello is the wine that introduced Ridge to the world, and the world to Ridge. The "Judgement of Paris" in 1976 set the best of North America against the best of France with Ridge Monte Bello victorious. The re-run in 2006 produced the same result. With a history stretching back to 1885, Ridge adopts a natural rather than technological approach to winemaking. As Ridge maintain: as with raising a child, there are no recipes, only attention and sensitivity.
"The 2008 Monte Bello is striking. It is a decidedly muscular Monte Bello endowed with layers of dark fruit. Tobacco, mint, asphalt and crushed rocks develop in the glass, adding tons of complexity and finesse. A long, saline finish rounds things out beautifully. In 2008 the cold growing season stretched into October and the wine definitely has the feel of a cool vintage. The spring frost and the second year of drought conditions lowered yields significantly. Yields were just 1.25 tons per acre on average, but some of the older vineyards came in at less than 1 ton per acre. The balance of fruit, tannin and structure is simply extraordinary, but the wine needs time, most likely lots of it. In 2008 the blend is 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038. 97+ pts." (Antonio Galloni, eRobertParker.com, Aug 2011).
Ridge Monte Bello is one of California's true first growths and while it isn't given away, the brilliant Paul Draper has not got carried away either stylistically or price-wise. In the superb 2008 vintage, he has fashioned a stylish blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot whose cedary aromatic charms foreshadow a textured red of intense, spice-infused cassis opulence neatly defined by the building blocks of refined tannins and savoury acidity. 95 pts. (thewinegang.com, Dec 2011).
