Good, well prepared food that is affordable is the philosophy behind Green 19. Traditional dinners like corned beef with cabbage, bangers and mash, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding are the mainstay of this modern, buzzing eatery which caters for all age groups, but particularly for the young at heart.

The prophets of doom were puzzled when Green Nineteen opened in the midst of an economic downturn. Puzzlement continued unabated when it appeared the restaurant in trendy Lower Camden Street was about to buck the trend by attracting customers aplenty - so much so that it was soon difficult to find a seat in what was fast becoming one of the city's not-so-hidden gastronomic gems. The food is eminently affordable, the quality uncompromising and the welcome is genuine and unfussy. The restaurant has been winning praise from mainstream reviewers and bloggers alike and its menus have gone down well, promising, as they do, wholesome, no-nonsense fare with a touch of the unexpected - corned beef and cabbage seems to be a punters' favourite. The wines are, of course, supplied mainly by James Nicholson.

The decor is eye-catching, the atmosphere relaxed and the music is funky. Customers include some of the artists whose paintings grace the walls, such as Mo Kelly and musicians who play Whelan's and other local venues. G19's most famous customer to date is former Ramones drummer, Marky Ramone. He raved about the pastrami sandwich and the picture of Obama ouside, says chef Adam Dickson who runs the place along with his brother Colin.

As Angela Flannery said in her review of Green 19 in the Irish Independent (28/11/08): There's much to like about Green Nineteen: quality food, low prices, and an excellent cocktail menu.

Green Nineteen's genuine commitment to offering their customers value for money is neatly summed up in a blog entry in Cheapeats.ie:

I particularly like how their menu encourages patrons to steer clear of bottled water by pointing out that  tap water is free - good riddance to the days when you were made feel guilty for asking for this. More restaurants should follow suit.
